My experiences during the 11 years I spent in Northwest Girlchoir are an integral part of who I am; the lessons learned and memories made continue to serve me every day. The high quality of musicianship that I was immersed in during my time with the choir set the bar very high during the process of deciding where to go to college. I can thank my musical training with the choir for my ability to blend with fellow choristers, sight-reading skills and so many other tools which I use every day. Also, in a more broad sense, touring with Northwest Girlchoir has shaped who I am and has opened my eyes to many different cultures, helping to make me a more confident person.

NWGC Tours

Amore choristers with Ambassador Michael Polt and Mrs. Polt at the US Embassy Fourth of July celebration, Talinn, Estonia, 2011.

Touring and choral festival participation are important facets of the Northwest Girlchoir program. Singers gain valuable experience performing for unfamiliar audiences and under a variety of circumstances. Through repeated performances, singers aquire a deep and often profound knowledge of the repertoire, and they grow—as individual musicians and as a cooperative ensemble.

Choristers also forge new friendships and deepen current bonds through days of fun and hard work “on the road.” Choristers on tour have opportunities to meet and interact with people from many different backgrounds and cultures, including other choirs and singers, homestay families, and people in the community. Singers gain confidence and independence through the challenges and responsibilities of traveling as a group—ordering a meal in another language, sharing a hotel or dorm room with other choristers, and touring an area independently in small groups. Many Northwest Girlchoir graduates speak of choir tours as some of the most memorable and transformative experiences of their choir careers.  Learn more about Northwest Girlchoir's touring philosophy
